Dirty Harry, Step Aside: 455-cal 20-shot revolver with 10″ barrel.
Russ Chastain 02.19.20
If you have ever looked at Dirty Harry’s 44 magnum 6-shooter and thought, “What a wimpy gun,” we may have found what you need… it’s a revolver that weighs 9 pounds and holds 20 rounds of 455 Eley ammo.
It’s currently listed for sale at guns.com for a whopping $4,999.99.
They’re calling it a “trench revolver,” and it is apparently designed to mount on a post and be fired using a cord or rope. I would surmise one could load it while safely hidden in a trench, then stick it up over the edge and sling 20 rounds in the general direction of the enemy as fast as you can pull the rope.
It’s not in the greatest condition, but who cares? I like how they thoughtfully fluted the cylinder to lighten it up to “just” 9 pounds.
It has a 10-inch barrel, but neither the post nor the for sale listing say whether the barrel is rifled or smoothbore.
Judging by the proof marks, it would appear to have been made in Belgium.
This is one heck of a big centerfire wheel gun, and I want one. Don’t you?
