Hornady’s New Outfitter Ammunition
Dr. John Woods 12.16.19
When we left elk camp riding horses up into the mountains, it was just starting to spit some ice and snow. By the time we rode for nearly two hours to reach a canyon overlook to watch for elk it had snowed ten inches. We found what we were looking for, too. A herd of nearly 100 elk were rushing to the top of the ridge as one of the hunters settled into a sitting position for a shot.
When he pulled the trigger there was nothing but a click. He quickly bolted his rifle just as the last bull was about to cross over the top. The second round fired and hit home. The bull faltered, slipped back, fell over on his back and like a toboggan on a ski slope he slid all the way back down into the valley. It took the guides hours to get him out.
But what about the cartridge that failed? Upon examination it was evident that the primer and its pocket had some corrosion, but there was also some sign that maybe water had leaked in around the bullet so perhaps the powder was contaminated. It was a good lesson to check your ammo thoroughly before going on a hunt. That, or buy the new Hornady Outfitter Ammunition in an effort to bypass such ammo contamination.
Hornady has been producing state-of-the-art ammo for many years and they continue to introduce new designs, new bullets, and new types of loaded ammunition to satisfy shooters and hunters the world over. Their new Outfitter ammo is just one more example of this.
The Outfitter line of ammunition was really created to perform in the toughest field conditions that hunters encounter. From sealed primers and case mouths to waterproof cases that are nickel plated for corrosion resistance, the new Outfitter ammunition will not let hunters down just because of terrible hunting conditions.
Sporting their new GMX bullets, the Outfitter ammo will retain up to 95 percent of weight retention which is a vital characteristic for field performance on wild game. The new Outfitter ammunition will be available in many rounds including 243, 6.5 Creedmoor, 270, 270 WSM, 7mm WSM, 7mm Mag, 30-06, 300 WSM, 300 Win Mag, 375 HH Mag, and 375 Ruger. This should just about cover the big game hunting waterfront.
