HybridLight TrueTimber Pro Kit Solar/USB Lights Review

Journey 250 Flashlight/Charger

The HybridLight Journey 250 is lighter than it looks at 8.1 ounces, but its brightness and projection are seriously lacking. Although rated at 250 lumens, mine always feels a bit too dim.

This would make a decent emergency light, because the large solar panel (about 5″ long and 7/8″ wide) will help keep some charge in the 4400 mAh lithium-ion battery all the time — and they claim the battery will hold a charge for 7 years. But for a hunting light it falls short of the mark.

The Journey 250 is waterproof, with a black rubber pushbutton switch (low/high/off) as the only exposed control element. To charge via MicroUSB or to use its battery to charge another device, unscrew the tailcap, which features an o-ring gasket.

Battery life is rated at 18 hours on low, 9 hours on high.

The HybridLight Journey 250 is 8.4 inches long, 2 inches diameter at the head, and 1.6 inches diameter at the base. It weighs 8.1 ounces and has an MSRP of $49.95.

The HybridLight Journey 160 is also lighter than it looks and it’s just about the perfect handful, with my thumb easily finding the low/high/off pushbutton switch every time. Brightness is rated at 160 lumens on high, but once again the light doesn’t project well and thus feels less bright when you’re trying to see your way through the dark. I almost feel as if HybridLight designed their reflectors more for aesthetics than for function.

The Journey 160 mirrors its larger companion in that you unscrew the waterproof tailcap to expose the USB ports for charging the light or using it to charge another device. Neither tailcap is tethered to the light body, so make sure you don’t lose it while charging.

Life of the 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at 8 hours on high and a whopping 30 hours on low.

The HybridLight Journey 160 is 6 inches long, 1.75 inches diameter at the head, and 1.45 inches diameter at the base. It weighs 4.7 ounces and has an MSRP of $34.95.
