What should a nation do when its citizens are under constant attack? The answer Israel came up with is to allow an estimated half a million veterans to carry guns.
Of course, the decision is not without its objectors. Some people in the anti-gun group say increasing the number of guns on the streets will only add to the problem.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan announced Monday that over half a million Israelis will now be eligible for firearm permits after the government decided to ease gun restrictions for the country’s hundreds of thousands of infantry veterans.
Under Erdan’s reform, Israelis who served in infantry units are immediately eligible to carry firearms.
Additionally, police officers who have received similar training, military officers ranked first lieutenant or higher, and non-commissioned officers ranked first sergeant or higher will no longer have to relinquish their weapon upon completion of service.

Will having more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens increase crime? Not according to Texas. The year after concealed carry was passed, Texas murder rates went down, and continued to go down. We talked about this in another article – Gun Control Advocates Resort to Synthetic Numbers.
The murder rates in Texas for 2011, 2012 and 2013 were the lowest since the 1960s. Before the concealed carry law was passed, murder rates in Texas averaged around 2,000 a year.
- 1984, there were 2,132 murders in Texas.
- 1994, there were 2,022 murders in Texas.
- 1995, there were 1,693 murders in Texas.
- 2015, there were 1,316 murders in Texas.
Israel arming its citizens makes perfect sense. Hopefully, assaults in Israel will take a nose dive with more armed citizens on the streets.
It will take a few years to collect data, but it will be interesting to see what happens with more armed citizens. Will the number of assaults and murders go down, like what happened in Texas and just about all other states that have concealed carry?
The sad part is if crime does go down in Israel, chances are the anti-gun crowd will ignore the data. What is the other solution? For unarmed people to be attacked by terrorist. If that were working to solve the people, people would not need to be armed.
