Watch: How to Use a Shepherd’s Sling as a Throwing Weapon
Russ Chastain 02.27.18
Ever since David slew Goliath, the sling has had a certain mystique about it. What’s that you say? You thought he used a slingshot? Well, nope.
The sling is about as simple a throwing tool as you can get; a bit of a pouch with a couple lengths of cordage, for the accurate and powerful throwing of stones as a weapon.
Knowing how to use a sling could be quite useful in a survival situation, as it wouldn’t be too hard to cobble one up using some shoe strings and a boot tongue. The one in this video from BlackScoutSurvival is a bit more exotic, containing snare wire, fishing line, and waxed jute in the paracord.
After a short intro, he discusses some of the variations he’s tried, and notes which ones provided better (or worse) accuracy in his experience.
Afterward, he demonstrates his ability to hit a target 2 out of 3 times.
