Turning a Hole Into a Prefab Bunker (Video)
Russ Chastain 02.29.16
This is pretty cool. A guy takes a shipping container and turns it into an underground shelter. A *nice* underground shelter.
Dig a hole, add some gravel, get a septic tank company to put your container into the hole, place a sump pump to keep ground water out of the gravel, pour some concrete steps, do some grading, add some supportive structure & framework, pour a bunch of reinforced concrete, lay some blocks, cover with a bunch of soil, stock it with supplies, and enjoy.
If you want, you can build a little shed over the entrance to shelter and conceal it. Just use the block walls as stem walls for the shed.
Check out the video slide show below for a step-by-step of the process.
