Happy Thanksgiving? Home Invasion Ends with Bad Guy Bleeding

Edmonds, WA – One young man reportedly tried to force his way into the wrong home early on Thanksgiving day and was shot for his troubles.
The home was the residence of a 33-year-old mother of three, who awoke around 3:15 AM to the frightening sound of someone pounding on the front door and trying to break into her house. Charged with the protection of her three children (aged 5 to 14) and their 14-year-old friend, she took immediate measures to keep them safe.
The concerned mother called 911, armed herself, and waited while the assault continued. When he forced the door open, she tried to close it again, but he was winning the fight. Faced with being overpowered at her own front door, she fired one shot into his torso.
When police arrived–as usual, after the event–they found the wounded 22-year-old housebreaker outside, stinking of alcohol. He received emergency care and was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
The woman’s husband was also in the home at the time. I’m not sure what he was doing while all this was happening.
Edmonds Police Department Detective Sergeant Bob Barker said, “There were kids in the house, so she was protecting herself and she was scared and so she was doing what she could to protect her family.”
